Techniques

Attitude and the Mental game are extremely important factors in playing darts but, I get a chuckle at how often have I heard, "I'm going to be the BEST dart player in the world!" or  "I'm going to be better than you.  I have only been playing two years and look how good I am already!" from a new player.  Well, I'll give them points for enthusiasm but, it take more than just saying it.  Being good is a combination of talent, attitude, technique AND practice/conditioning.  With all the focus these days on international competition, it's just not enough to have talent anymore.  Darts is as much a science as it is an art.  Understanding that (and acting on it) is critical to playing the game to win.

First, and foremost, WATCH and STUDY a successful player while he/she is playing a match.  Their stance, grip and throwing style, although unique and refined to suit them, can teach you a lot.  ALL of the most successful players I know (whether they admit it or not) spend time watching other good players throw.  Some buy videos or record matches from TV.  Personally, I do set the timer on the TV for scheduled matches but, I also like to watch matches on DartsTV.com.  This is a service sold by the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) on an annual subscription and you can watch recordings of almost all of the best matches of our time (and some of the older "classics", too).

From a "science" standpoint, I have included articles on the most common mechanics of the game.  There are a lot of good resources out there and I reference them in these pages.
